Moving a Flat Screen Television

Preparation
Before you make any motions toward packing up that TV, snap a couple of quick pictures of the various cords and cables so that you will have a visual reference when you are hooking everything back up after you arrive at your new house. Next, carefully remove all cords and cables. Coil them up and secure them with a twist tie or rubber band and pack them into a box. And, don't forget to label the box. If the TV has a base or wall bracket, remove that as well. These items can be packed into the same TV accessory box as the cables. Make sure and put any screws into baggies and again, label them. There's no need to have to guess which screws go to which items once you are reassembling everything at your destination, and with the craziness that usually ensues around moving day, don't rely solely on your memory when it comes to making sure everything gets put back together as it was before. And, while you're at it, put any remotes in this box, as well.
Packaging
With any kind of luck, you had moving day in mind when you purchased your flat screen TV, and therefore, you kept the original TV box and inserts. However, if you are like most people, you didn't want a huge empty box cluttering up your garage or attic, so you disposed of it (hopefully via recycling). If the later is the case, you can get a box and corner protectors from a moving supply store or from your local moving company. Make sure to get a box that is big enough to fit around the TV with some extra room for padding. Wrap the TV carefully in a few moving blankets, put the corner protectors on and slide it into the box.
Transporting
The safest way to transport your flat screen TV is to keep it upright. In order to ensure that it remains in the proper position in the moving truck, secure it beside a mattress or something sturdy, such as a dresser or bookshelf. Make sure and keep the box of cables and accessories close by for easier unpacking.
Once you arrive to your new home, reverse the process and before you know it, your flat screen TV will be ready to broadcast the latest animated movie or big game. And, if all of this sounds too mind boggling to tackle yourself, give A-1 Freeman Moving Group or your local moving company a call. We would be happy to help make sure that your flat screen TV gets to your destination unscathed.
